My husband and I use this bike as a supplement to our gym membership. We are impressed with the sturdy design and absolutely no noise when you're riding. We have this bike in the room between our kids' bedrooms, and it is extremely quiet, so its perfect to get a quick workout while they're napping. The only con was that when you set up your profile and set up your own workout routine, it doesn't give you much guidance. My husband was very confused by that portion.

It may not be a decorator's dream but it will stay in my living room in front of the tv--I use the cup holder for the remote so i can fast forward through commercials!
I do recommend the suggestion i read to download the assembly instructions to a laptop to use while putting it together--much better than reading the paper one.

We use the bike every day, and so far no major complaints. The only issues are an occasional noise that seems to be tied to the console (perhaps it is loose?) and confusing console controls. Otherwise, we have had some wonderful workouts!

I like my bike! It is great to use at home instead of driving to the gym every day. I like how it "rides". It is difficult to understand the book directions for using the controls. I hope to get better at it after using it some more.

I love my bike. It is very, very comfortable. I could ride all day. I bought the Schwinn recumbent bike to lose weight. I am 64 years old and have a bad knee and I find it hard to walk or run for any length of time. Riding this bike I feel no pain in my knee at all. The bike is very sturdy. Without hesitation, I recommend the Schwinn recumbent to everyone for a comfortable, safe way to exercise and lose weight.

The bike was easy to construct. It looks nice even in the middle of my living room! I have been using this bike for a month now and lost 6 pounds. It feels amazing. I used to walk on the treadmill but my knees hurt... So this bike was the perfect option for me. Its small enough to fit in my living room so I work out everyday watching my favorite TV shows. Overall, it's simple, small, and easy to use. Has a lot of great features too. Also, I just bought a another one for a friend as a present. I would definitely recommend this product!

I purchased the 240 after riding a 226 at a relatives' home. I use the 240 in combination with road cycling particularly when weather or darkness will not let me get on the road. I like the ability to register calories and the different levels. I have had it about two months and can tell a difference in my endurance even though I did about 2000 miles per year on a road bike. Get this bike and use it. You can watch TV, listen to music, read, whatever and get in shape. No excuses now.
The only caution is be careful routing the cables during assembly. You can damage them by pinching them between metal parts.
Overall, this is a solid piece of conditioning equipment.

I love this bike. Great quality and design. It is sturdy, quiet and comfortable. Great for home use. Not hard to assemble but tricky. Need a second pair of hands at times. Some of it is loosely put together for shipping and needs to be taken apart to put it back together. Watch the wires and take your time step by step. [...]. No problems.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of this bike in comparison to the commercial models. The owners manual could be a little more detailed but once you figure it out, the programs give you a good workout

The bike is comfortable and has Schwinn quality. It's quiet and easy to get in a workout. I use the bike while watching TV at night after dinner. I'm mechanically challenged and still put it together in a couple of hours. The drink holder looks a little cheesy. Better footgaurds would be great for the pedals. A longer cable and alternate batteries for the monitor would have been really good. Better directions on how to work the monitor with a CD showing how to set the programs would have been easy to follow. I've owned an airdyne befor and like this bike much better. A green monitor might have been easier to view. It could also have a placement for an ipod to listen to music while working out. Overall my first impressions are that I like the bike and hope that I can have many great years with it and put many thousand of miles on the machine.

The railing that the seat was to be slid onto was already put together when it arrived.. I had to take it off to slide the seat onto the railing...while doing so, the railing dropped once...no big deal right?? NOT!! The railing has the electrical wiring set up in it and it ripped the wire into two!! I had to have my father come over to splice the wirining together so I could use the monitor. I think there should have been a WARNING label on this railing to warn about letting this drop down due to the wiring being attached to it. other than this...I love the bike. It has become a daily excercise for me and my family. We live in Florida...it is too hot here to bike outdoors...it is nice to be able to get this excercise in the home. The monitor is a bit confusing...I still have to call tech support to figure out a few things. I work on computers all day and I am the one who puts things together in my home...to not master both of these shows it is a bit on the difficult side.

This is an excellent product. Despite the hared to read instructions, for me anyway, the bike is not hard to assemble. The parts are well laid out and easy to put together. The only part that was confusing was the seat mount assembly had to be dissembled to put the seat assembly on, but the first assembly instruction is to connect the seat mount to the base unit. Besides, it was already connected before I removed it from the box.
There are challenges with the cable assembly in the base unit, but just pull the slack out of the base before you attach the main post, there's plenty of cable and it will be easier to run it through the post then.
The bike has run flawlessly for about a month. It's Great

Very quiet and easy to use. The assembly part was a bit tricky because it shipped pre-assembled so I had to take apart a few things and then put them back on. If you plan on using this item for longer than 45 minutes at a time the seat does become quite a nuisance on your behind.

took a while to put together but managed to figure out instructions without too much trouble. box was pretty tore up on arrival but fortunately bike was not damaged. gave up trying to figure out the programming, just use manual quick start feature. having zero experience with exercise electronics this was rather overwhelming. would suggest having easy programming for beginners!

I am very pleased with this purchase! This bike is all that it was advertised to be. [...] I saw several reviews commenting that the bike is difficult to assemble...I'm happy to say that I did not have a problem. I'm a female and found this easy to assemble when I followed the directions. There is one step toward the end where removal of the seat assembly is necessary in order to proceed. The directions don't tell you that. Just keep this in mind and you won't have a problem. It really is easy. Well worth the time to assemble. Good quality, sturdy, multiple programs, and the ability to monitor your heart rate. I watch t.v. while I'm exercising and it's so quiet you barely hear it. You could easily ride this in the same room as others that are watching t.v. Excellent, excellent bike, I highly recommend it.

Using for weight loss/general physical well being.
Favor over treadmill,elliptical,etc. to keep weight off knees. Like the course/circuit programs range of selections. Console read-out is efficient with info feedback. Can track RPM/Power/Heart Rate readily. Does have some odd creaks/squeaks for initial few uses. Fade with break-in. Overall good workout machine. Look forward to many years use.

I use my Schwinn to tone up my knee after having had knee surgery. It is low impact and I can workout much longer and more often. I find that using it every day has caused me to also lose weight. It's a great piece of exercise equipment. It gives me the convenience of using it every day in the privacy of my own home. I did have some difficulty setting my specific settings on the computer. I would definitely recommend this product above any I have tried in the gyms.

My wife and I both use the 240. Thanks to it's being so silent, we are able enjoy the TV news programs while working out. She recently had a tumor removed from her brain and her neurologist recommended the Schwinn 240 as an excellent, no impact exercise choice for her to regain her strength.
Assembly was easy, but we still have not figured out how to install the red plastic base for the bottle holder because the screws that were provided are not long enough to go through both the bottle holder and it's base.

It is extremely well made! It was not as easy to assemble as expected however that was not that much of a problem. To register the machine one needs to know what the serial number is and, for the life of me, I, and several others, could not find it. Would suggest the serial number be printed on the form that comes with the particular machine.

I use the bike at least 4 times a week. I am a larger person and it allows my body size to fit comfortable while working out. Controls are confusing - easy to program but when I begin a session I need to jump around to find my workout that I intend to do for the day. Also it would be nice to be able to store more than 2 individual workouts.

I rode this bike at physical therapy and liked it very much, so I bought one. Needed a low impact exercise to replace treadmill walking due to torn foot tendon. A very sturdy, easy, quiet bike. Still need to learn how to program the computer though. My husband who has rheumatoid arthritis likes it much better than the treadmill, easier on his joints. But, with his size 13 feet he cannot wear his tennis shoes while riding, he has to wear his slippers. The right foot peddle is too close to the unit and causes his shoe to hit. It needs an extension for for bigger feet. But for me it is a great bike and am very glad I bought it, fantastic bike and very nice price.

I use this bike for endurance and heart rate training. This is one of my weakest areas in my workout routine and this bike is comparable to the bike I was using at the gym every day. I also have bad knees, in which I'll probably have to have knee surgery someday in the near future. However, this bike is easy on the knees and will give you a good workout. I like all of the programs that it offers and that you can customize it on your own. I like the fact that there are a lot of levels of Resistance, which should give me a good workout for a long time.

Bike works great. Plenty of resistance. It is very quiet which is nice when watching TV while biking. It seems pretty sturdy for an average man around 200 lbs. It may not be as sturdy for a person who is very heavy or really tall. It's not a commercial quality piece of equipment found at a gym, but it suits just fine for home use.
The foot pedals are a bit small, and the foot straps are angled across the foot and don't seem to fit as well as they could, but it's not a big issue.
Overall, this is a fantastic bike for the price. Just remember to allow yourself about 2 hours of assembly time, and you will also have a ton of Styrofoam and a huge box to throw away.

I bought this bike after my latest visit with my cardiologist who encourage me to get a recumbent bike. I read review after review and the Schwinn 240 was the one bike that seemed to get good reviews all around. When the bike arrived at my door, I couldn't wait for the two person setup routine and decided to do it myself. Instructions were easy to follow. I am not a little guy and was concerned about the sturdiness of the bike. After putting it together my concerns were unwarranted as it accomodated my frame very well. It is quiet and the led controls are bright and easy to read. Find a place for it and ride it every chance you get. It will help you change your life for the better. I would say that you can't go wrong with the purchase of the Schwinn 240.

The only cons I see are 1) user interface to the electronics is cumbersum- it is not inutitive- only a few buttons that are used to do different things. 2) heart rate monitor- the location where you grip is in an uncomfortable place. 3) Seat is adjustable forward and back, but not height (2-3 inches of heigth adjustment would be preferable)

I read about the Schwinn 240 in a newspaper article. A woman was singing its praised for being so quiet while in use. It sounded great and my husband and I purchased one. I use it every day. I don't dread this exercise equipment like the other equipment that we have. This is the only piece of equipment that I use every day. In a way it is a relaxing experience. I sit in front of the T.V. and watch great movies and the time flies. My only complaint is that my rump gets sore while peddling away. Great price at expected consumer level quality. The bike is sturdy enough and seems be designed for an average sized person. The assembly takes a long time, anywhere from 1hrs-3hrs. I am very satisfied with this purchase. Over the last year I have gone to the gym daily and used the commercial recumbent bike made by Expresso. The gym bike is of industrial strength and very large. Comparing it with the Schwinn 240 would side for the Expresso, however I think the Schwinn is great for home cardio workouts. A big gripe is that it doesn't have an on/off switch I could find. Once it's plugged in, it's on with the digital back-lit display always active. The Schwinn is very quiet which allows me to hear the TV easily. The electronic console looks and feels very cheap. The back-lit digital read out looks like Walmart quality. But, it does work fine and suits my needs. It has a nice comfortable spongy seat coupled with an overall solid field. The resistance settings go from easy to very challenging.
For the money, you can't beat this!

The transitioning between workout levels of resistance while progressing through your personally programable workout is inconsistent.
Programming and tracking workouts is limited.
Pros:Easy to use for those wanting a 'quick' daily "at home workout" for beginners or avid users! We also utilize hand weights while cycling on this exercise bike even though the handle bars positioned next to the seat protrude and may obstruct upper body conditioning.

Got this product because my fiancee overtrained for a 5K and needed something low impact to keep her endurance up while recovering. We have this set up next to a treadmill and it is whisper quiet, especially compared to that noise. The assembly was a little involved, but nothing too hard. It seems to have great resistance range, from very easy to very, very hard. Humorously, it provides "motivational" messages on the display, some of which don't make sense ("Use your arms" or "Take longer strides"), which may be indicative of the console being used for an elliptical too. Overall I don't notice the difference between this and a health club level bike and am extremely satisfied.

I did a lot of research for an exercise bicycle and found that for this price range, the Schwinn 240 was the hands down winner. [...] I did not look forward to the assembly part because in several of the reviews some of the buyers said it was great bike but they had a hard time setting it up. Sure, it's not going be put together in an hour but the instructions were really not that bad. It took me about 3 hours and beside the instructions that came with it, I went to Schwinn's web site and printed them out so I could see the diagram in larger print (a tip I picked up from another buyer who reviewed). So far, everything has been good. I'm pleasantly surprised. I wish more of the things I purchased worked out like this. Kind of like the difference between buying a Mac and a PC. You know you're not going to have problems with the Mac and if you do, they will bend over backwards to replace or fix it whereas with a PC, well that's another story and there's not enough time or space to rant about that experience :-).

My doctor told me, at my recent physical, that whatever I am doing, to keep doing it. He said I was in better shape than he was, and he looks great! A major part of my work outs include riding the Schwinn at home. I also work out 3 to 5 days per week at a local health/fitness facility, operated by a local hospital. The exercise bikes I use there are of top quality. The Schwinn 240 rivals those bikes. It is quiet, has several programs, easy to operate, very comfortable, and very sturdy. The only negative I can say about it, is the fact that the power cord, which needs to be plugged in, is located at the front of the machine. In my case, because of the electrical outlet being behind my bike, I need to run the cord under the bike and to the rear. It is not very long and therefore I need an extension. Not really a major problem, but just wish I could hide the cord a little more. Other than that, it is one super in-home exercise bike. I ordered the bike online from Mercantila, and their price [...] were excellent. [...] Set up was a breeze, but following the directions in detail is a must. Took about 2 hours. All in all, I am one happy camper!

I wanted a recumbent exercise bike for exercise sessions that could be more laid back and multi-functional while still getting my heart rate into the target zone. I have used this bike several times in the week that I have had it, and I love it. I can watch TV and use 8-10 lb. handweights to do various types of arm strength training. I have used a different preset workout program each time I've used the bike, and I use the handweights during the lower intensity parts of each workout.
My husband assembled the bike, and he did not complain that it was difficult. I did find the electronic set up a little confusing based on the instructions in the book. However, once I completed my personal user setup, I have found the bike very simple to use. I have a heart rate monitor (HRM) with a watch and chest strap, and I have found the heart rate sensors on the bike's handles to be generally in line with my HRM. The calorie count is nowhere near in line with my HRM, but that is always the case with every piece of exercise equipment.
Overall, I love this bike; I use it routinely, and I intend to continue doing so!

The bottom seat cushion has too big a gap between it and the back cushion, which makes it somewhat uncomfortable. You have to slide down into a low curve in order to "fit" into the cushion. The foot straps are a nuisance for me--I may take them off.

Okay, this is the perfect way to quickly shed pounds or just keep that cardio going. I ride while watch TV and the time flies by. My husband is the workout maniac who rides for 45 minutes to an hour. I bought this after selling my spin bike. I decided to change to a recumbent bike for several reasons, the main one being that I want to work out at night while watching tv with my family. This is super quiet and watching tv makes the time fly. I am coming back off an extreme tendon reconstructive surgery (the second in 2 years) I use to be a triathlete but have become severely out of shape due to injuries so now it's a journey back to life and this recumbent bike is the start. I bought this machine to use as an extra exercise medium. It more than meets my requirements. I found that it will give you all the resistance you will require.
It is very well made and contrary to most things I had read about the difficulty in assembly, I found it to be very simple. I downloaded from the company web-site, installation instructions before receiving my bike and I was familiar with the procedure when it arrived. Put it together in less than an hour.
My only complaint is the operating isnstuctions of the computer are very poor. I am not an electronic genius and I have found that it takes a lot of study to master the settings. I would recommend that this matter be reviewed.
I think this is an excellent product regardless of the cost and the company delivered just as they advertised. I would do this deed again but I believe this purchase will give me all the exercise I will require.

I use the bike to avoid high impact workouts while my back heals. It offers ample variety of workout profiles. The assembly manual is badly organized, as you actually have to partially dis-assemble the bike before you can put it together. Assembly takes two people. My doctor recommended a recumbent bike and I didn't know anything about them so I did quite a bit of research. There is a lot of junk out there but I felt the Schwinn seemed to be the best value for the money. I ordered it with my fingers crossed and the Schwinn 240 turned out to be everything I expected. It is well built, comfortable and very quiet as other reviews had mentioned. [...] As for the assembly instructions, they are both misleading and totally inadequate. I find it hard to believe a company can make a quality product like this with such poor assembly instructions. The tools that come with it are adequate for assembly [...] I did have to unassemble parts that came factory assembled with my unit to get the seat assembly on. Take your time and have someone help you hold the assembly not only to assist, but the wires are very thin and can easily be damaged by the heavy metal assembly parts. Don't force the flimsy cable connectors together as there is no easy way to tell which end goes where. Examine them closely and if you have it right, they will click together. I wrapped electrical tape around the full length of wires/connectors to thread them through the frame and protect them. Once together, the wiring is fully secured. I had to jury rig something for the water bottle "holder" as mine had no bottom and a water bottle just slid right through. So far, (beside the poor instructions) that is the only complaint I have about this attractive, well designed, sturdy unit! Assembly is physical. I have spinal arthritis and don't move as well as I used to so it took my wife and I about 3 hours to figure it out and put it together properly. My wife, son and I have all used the 240 on manual control and really like it. For those who are into electronic exercise programs, it should be all you might expect from a home exercise machine.

I hired someone to assemble the bike so I can't really rate how easy that process was, but I know he didn't complain. My friend/contractor is a perfectionist and is very careful. He was here just shy of 2 1/2 hours start to finish and had some interruptions. I estimate he worked on the assembly about two hours.
I've just given the bike a test run and like my experience so far. I have it in my office so I can't ignore it. I joined a gym last year and discovered that all I did was ride the bike so I have dropped my gym membership in anticipation of riding on a regular basis. It won't take too many months of saved gym fees to pay for the bike.
So far this bike compares well to the one at the gym. The only thing missing for me are the arm rests. I liked to put my elbows on the arm rests at the gym so I could hold a magazine comfortably without having my arms tire. Since I have a TV in my office that may not be a big issue for me. Plus, I knew that this bike didn't have the arm rests before I purchased it.
I will review the bike again after using it for awhile.

After buying several different pieces of equipment that are supposed to be easy on knees, ankles and feet (that failed)this Schwinn 240 is a perfect fit.
With its step through design I can easily get on and off. The seat is comfortable and can be adjusted to your height. The pedal operation is smooth and very quite. There are many different programs for beginner as well as the pro. I love this bike it is better than I imagined that it would be.

I have back issues and needed a recumbent bike as I can't use my treadmill anymore. This was my favorite when trying them out in stores, and I have not been disappointed now that I'm using it daily in my home. Got it from Mercantila as they had the best price.

Bought this for indoor cardio workout after coronary artery intervention. Product is very smooth and was really surprised that there was absolutely no sound coming from the bike. Very impressive. Setup takes a while but is not difficult, just make sure all the bolts are as tight as you can get them and you will have a solid machine. This is a five star piece of equipment.

My doctor wants me to get more exercise and I hate walking in the winter here in the northeast.I set it up in my basement and I can use it everynite after work.
It is easy on your joints and don't risk injury.
I just wish that there could really be more resistance adjustment.The up on down arrow on the pad really don't provide much resistance.The instructions for assembly could have more detail,I could see where some tool challenged people have problems with assembly.SO far I do like it, my legs are getting stronger already.

The entire family uses the Schwinn 240 Recumbent Bike. It is comfortable and it has a wide range of challenging workouts. I bought it after seeing one at my friend's house. We had been using a treadmill, but this is so much better.
The bike arrived on time in excellent condition. The customer service was wonderful. The emails kept us informed of the status of the order from the first step to when it arrived.

I was not sure about a recumbant bike but after setting it up and using it for awhile, I really like the exercise it gives me. The control panel is a bit confusing but the resistance that the bike gives at various levels is smooth and effetive for a good work out.

Great product. Very quiet so I can watch TV or listen to the radio. I am going to have knee surgery and am building up my legs and knees before as recommended by the doctor. The bike will be part of my rehab after surgery. The instructions are diagrams only and could use some written description. Written instructions would have saved us about 45 min. Also as indicated in reviews on [@], be sure to write down the serial number on the underside of the back stabilizer before assembly. After assembly it is not visible without lifting the back end up and looking at it with a magnifying glass (numbers are very small).
Delivery was fast. However, I was missing the power cable from my package but when contacting the seller, the part was sent immediately and the customer service person was very nice and helpful.

This bike is very quiet. It is very easy to watch tv while I ride it.
The delivery of my recumbent bike was very quick! I ordered it on the 16th and it was delivered to my house on the 19th. The box was in excellent condition. Since I was not familiar with this company, I was a little hesitant to order from them at first, but the reviews looked good and the price was $50 less than all the others so I decided to take a chance. I am very pleased with my decision!

Bought this bike for rehab after knee replacemeent. Seat needs to allow for angulation. Limited flexion of the joints means seat has to be further back and puts too much pressure on coccyx. A seat tilt would fix this and be healthier.Would also like easier backward/forward seat adjusment. Workouts to increase flexion and strength necessitate frequent moving of seat. Programming is solid. Very quite. Great workout.

I have this machine in my living room so that I can multitask (watch tv or read while exercising). This machine is very good looking and so quiet that I can enjoy being with the family while working out and not disrupt anyone. I sold my spin bike to get this one and I love how comfortable it is, it's going to be something that I will be able to use for many years and many hours because it's fun, comfortable, easy and because I am a working mom that is also going to school full time I can workout and I won't sacrifice time away from my family. I love it. I don't see this becoming an expensive clothes hanger (LOL).

This is the quietest recumbant I have ever used. Set up was easy despite what others may have said. The instructions provided were clear and easy to follow and none of my own tools were needed, the parts package came with the needed wrenches and screwdrivers.
The delivery was very quick, Fedex delivered it in under one week. The box was a little beat up but the bike was fine. Customer service prior to shipment was great, they resolved any concerns I had about what I would be receiving and when.

Bike is extremely quiet. I did not care for having to enter a custom program to add a new user. I would definately recommend this bike to a friend. The resistance can be varied to suit just about any user. The pedal straps could use a better latching anchor as they tend to disconnect during use. That may improve on it's own with time.
Unit was supposed to be in stock and ready for shipment. Ordered it 1/25/11 - received it 2/22/11. I was told it was due to a delay in the arrival of the container ship. We got a kick out of the card attached to the bike "Schwinn - an American icon". Made in China

I HAVE 'LET MYSELF GO' OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS, AND LOOKING FOR A LOW IMPACT WAY TO BURN CALORIES, I ALWAYS KNEW HOW EASY A RECUMBENT BIKE IS ON MY KNEES, AND BEHIND (i HATE UPRIGHT BIKES, THEY HURT!!!). THE REVIEWS FOR THIS BIKE ARE STELLAR PEOPLE, DO ALL THE RESEARCH. I SET IT UP WITH MY WIFE IN ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF. I REALLY COULD NOT BE HAPPIER WITH THE PURCHASE, CONSIDERING CANCELLING MY GYM MEMBERSHIP. QUIET, SLEEK, AND COMFORTABLE I ALREADY HAVE BUILT A CUSTOM PRESET TO MY LIKING (INTERVAL TRAINING). I AM VERY IMPRESSED.

[...]I was so excited to put it together and use it! The instructions were lame but it wasn't that hard. Sturdy design. I plugged it in, figured out the computer module (the instructions for that were bad too) and then worked out with it for a half hour. LOVED IT! Great program with hills and SO QUIET! Then I went to program another user in and the display froze and whatever button I pressed didn't have any response. So I unplugged it and I only got a blank screen. I rechecked the connections and the plug and everything is fine. I will call schwinn customer service tomorrow.... I assume the display console is a lemon. BUMMER@!
